Milestones

Momma, Poppa and Cahill made it through an entire week alive. The week has proven to be filled with beautiful moments and a new reality. Both Kurt and I took a leave of absence to welcome our new member. He will return back to work on the 20th of August and I will return part time at the end of this month.

Cahill was born at 6 lbs 13 ounces and had lost 8 ounces by the time she left. When we had our first Dr's apt she had lost another ounce. So the Dr was a little concerned as she was already low weight. So we had to go back to the Dr on Thursday to weigh her again. Finally on Thursday, the weight turned around and she gained an ounce. The Dr still was not happy and made another apt for this morning. We were very happy to find out that today she had gained another 2 ounces. As she still is not at her birth weight she has turned around and started gaining so it is just a matter of time. Another milestone today is the fact that she finally lost her umbilical cord. (this is so nice cuz it just weirded me out). Cahill really likes to eat but not as much as she likes to sleep. She will currently sleep through just about everything but bath time. (This has made it difficult to wake her for feedings.) In the past 24 hours, she has proven that she can make up for long sleeping periods by eating up to five ounces at a time. I am breast feeding but we have just introduced the bottle (pumped breast milk) so that Kurt can take a couple of feedings in the night. Some nights she will only wake up every four hours and other nights every two hours. She literally sleeps at all time unless she is feeding or bathing.

Cahill's personality

Our baby girl is already showing us parts of her beautiful personality. She has proven to be very strong and will prove it when you try to change her clothes. She also likes to shoot her legs out and just suspend them out there and hold. (I think she is doing pilates) She has also proven to be very impatient when she wants to eat and it takes you more then 60 seconds to become prepared. She smiles all of time even if it is gas it is beautiful to see. She is rarely fussy unless she needs something.
